New Bridge over the river Vermenagna

The project focuses on the demolition and reconstruction of the Madonnina bridge to resolve the structural and safety failures caused by the October 2020 flood.

To improve hydraulic performance, the new structure features an expanded cross-section designed to increase discharge capacity and mitigate future flood risks. To enhance local infrastructure, the bridge is designed to accommodate higher traffic volumes while providing a dedicated path for pedestrians and cyclists.

The technical specifications of the new bridge include a 26-meter span and a 15-meter width. The primary structure is built from weathering steel with a reinforced concrete deck, supported by a foundation on piles to ensure maximum stability.

The intervention is structured in distinct operational phases. The initial phase involves the diversion of existing utility services currently crossing the bridge. This will be followed by the implementation of temporary traffic diversions to maintain connectivity throughout the works. Once the existing bridge is demolished, the construction of the new structure will begin, using specialized techniques and high-performance materials. The project will conclude with the final finishes and the reinstatement of the surrounding landscape.
